We are seeking an experienced Device Design Engineer for our innovative GaN power devices.

What you will do

Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology offers faster switching power devices with higher breakdown voltages, higher thermal conductivity and lower on-resistance than silicon (Si). GaN-based power devices play a key role in the power conversion within battery chargers, smartphones, computers, servers, automotive, lighting systems and photovoltaics.   

GaN power devices are a breakthrough technology, revolutionizing the power electronics landscape. Imec has been pioneering GaN technology for more than 15 years; and has an exciting roadmap for the next generations. Imec has developed enhancement-mode devices from 40V to 1200V on 200mm GaN-on-Silicon wafers with state-of-the-art performance and reproducibility, while keeping manufacturing costs in mind. We explore further the next generation GaN technology with a higher level of integration (eg. GaN-IC) and higher performances. Our research covers GaN epitaxy as well as device engineering and process technology.  

We are looking for an experienced device design engineer for our GaN power devices to strengthen our team.  This encompasses the design and layout of the power device, process design kit (PDK), and physical understanding of the electrical test results to optimize the device design and the technology.    

Your tasks include:  

  • CAD based design and layout of the power devices .
  • Contribute to installing, customizing and testing of PDKs. 
  • Support parasitic extraction and IC tape-out.
  • Analyze test data and work with the process integration team to optimize the fabrication and layout for improved performance and reliability of the power devices .
  • As you build up your competences and skills, we expect you to take up responsibilities as a project leader in one of our funded or bilateral projects, as a growth path for your career.

Who you are

  • You have a Master or higher degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or similar.
  • You have a solid background in device physics.
  • Experience with Technology CAD is an asset. 
  • Preferably you have >3 years of experience in layout design.
  • Your good knowledge of Cadence Virtuoso and Mentor Calibre will be an advantage. 
  • You are experienced/interested in programming (SKILL, Python, etc).  
  • You are accurate and focused on delivering results, meeting specific targets and deadlines.  
  • You are customer-minded, enthusiastic, eager to learn, share, open, and flexible.
  • You can work independently and have a sense of responsibility and urgency.    
  • You are a team player as you will be collaborating with the process integration and characterization teams.
  • You are fluent in English.
