ABOUT GHENT UNIVERSITY

Ghent University is a world of its own. Employing more than 15,000 people, it is actively involved in education and research, management and administration, as well as technical and social service provision on a daily basis. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities. With its 11 faculties and more than 80 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.

YOUR TASKS

  • You will conduct research at the Electrical Energy Laboratory (EELAB) of Ghent University in the framework of the project entitled EneMaX – Enabling the energy transition in manufacturing through flexibility.
  • Electrical flexibility (on the demand side) has been identified as one of the most promising solutions to integrate more renewable energy sources into the energy system and to improve the competitiveness of end users (in particular industrial consumers). The EneMaX project will investigate how the manufacturing industry can participate in flexible energy consumption, i.e. varying electricity demand to contribute to the balance of the electricity system.
  • The research at EELAB will focus on, on the one hand, the development of a methodology to identify and quantify the potential flexibility in the manufacturing industry and, on the other hand, the analysis of different options to valorize flexibility through both local solutions, such as local production and storage of renewable energy, and global system approaches, such as aggregation and clustering.
  • Your research tasks will mainly be situated in one (or more) of the above-mentioned focus areas of EELAB within the EneMaX project.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, preferably in the field of electrical (power), electromechanical, energy or control engineering, or in an equivalent domain.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 2 years.
  • Your contract will start on 1 March 2025 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
  • All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
