ABOUT GHENT UNIVERSITY

Ghent University is a world of its own. Employing more than 15,000 people, it is actively involved in education and research, management and administration, and technical and social services on a daily basis. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities. With each of its 11 faculties and more than 100 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes that are grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its employees as well as its students.

YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the field of spatially explicit modelling at the research group BionamiX of the Department of Data Analysis and Mathematical Modeling at Ghent University. This research group focuses on the development of mathematical and computational models for describing complex natural and biological systems. The group's methodological research mainly focuses on understanding the dynamic properties (stability, sensitivity, identifiability, etc.) of spatially explicit models such as cellular automata, particle-based models, and agent-based models. The results of this contribute to the more applied research we conduct, in which such models are used to model various natural and biological processes, such as ecological interactions, cellular interactions, tissue growth, disease spread, animal migration, and so on.

The research of the successful candidate should align with one of these research lines to further consolidate it within the research group and to support PhD students whose projects are aligned with one of the research lines.
