YOUR TASKS
- At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation on lung health in the general population. Aging is one of the major challenges of the 21st century and lung function is one of the most important predictors of healthy aging. Within this PhD project, the lung function of middle aged to elderly persons from the general population will be linked to the environment they are exposed. Which dietary markers are beneficial in subgroups of the general population for their lung health, will be further investigated.
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically the following Dutch courses: Pathophysiology I-IV.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a degree of Master of Medicine in Medicine, Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Care, Drug Development, Biomedical Sciences or equivalent degree. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
- You have an interest in public health, epidemiology and clinical pharmacology. Publications or a master's thesis on pulmonary diseases or precision medicine or care in patients with chronic complex diseases are highly recommended.
- You have strong interest and/or experience in statistical data processing and have a thorough knowledge of SPSS and/or R.
- You demonstrate clinical and analytical ability to transform clinical problems into statistical syntax. Knowledge of and affinity with current evolutions in healthcare (both in the Belgian context and internationally) is important.
- You are able to translate scientific research into the professional practice of healthcare providers (both locally and internationally) and into the training of future healthcare providers;
- You have an independent, problem-solving, organized and result-oriented attitude;
- You possess the required social skills, flexibility and critical spirit to function in a multidisciplinary and international academic environment.
- You possess teaching and communication skills. Teaching experience and participation in continuing education, conferences, etc. is highly recommended.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
