YOUR TASKS

You will perform fundamental research at the Electrical Energy Laboratory (EELAB) of Ghent University in the InduFlexControl-2 project, which is a continuation of the previous InduFlexControl project.

The general goal of this follow-up project is to develop data-driven modelling techniques and control methodologies, harness flexibility in the energy-intensive industry and enable its active participation in the energy transition while remaining cost-efficient and low in CO2 emissions. While the previous project focused entirety in modelling and control methodologies for unlocking the underlying flexibility, InduFlexControl-2 will go one step further, exploring how the incorporation of power-to-X technologies, storage and eventually an alternative (re-)design of selected components in the energy-intensive industry can extend the overall available flexibility. The fundamental research project is articulated around innovative modelling and control techniques targeting more effective exploitation of industrial flexibility:

White-box and data-driven modelling techniques that enable both parametrizable studies of the flexibility potential, as well as adaptability and incorporation of uncertainties.

Data-driven model predictive control (MPC) that provides robustness while being able to cope with the complex nature of energy-intensive processes

Incorporation of market mechanisms and energy system constraints to unveil constraints and deviations from the optimum that are usually omitted.

Your research tasks are mainly situated in the field of white-box modelling, control and design for power-to-X and flexibility, implementation of a proof of concept, etc..

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a thesis-based doctorate in engineering or engineering technology, preferably in the field of electrical, electromechanical, energy or control engineering.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 18 months (possibly extendable by 3 to 6 months).

Your contract will start on 1st October 2022 at the earliest.

Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4. Click here for more information about our salary scales.
