At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the domain of the development of peptide and oligonucleotide probes for applications in chemical biology.
You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level, in particular the coordination and guidance of advanced practicals and exercise sessions in Organic Synthesis, and internships at bachelor and master level.
You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
You will counsel doctoral students.
You will assist in securing research funding.
You will contribute to the organization of the Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry research group by taking up general responsibilities for, e.g., research equipment.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You hold a doctoral degree (in Sciences - Chemistry) or a subject considered relevant by the selection committee. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
You have a broad and proven experience in organic synthesis preferably related to the development of peptides and/or oligonucleotides for applications in chemical biology.
You have knowledge on equipment and methods for the characterization of modified peptides, oligonucleotides and /or proteins.
You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programs.
You have relevant scientific publications in international and national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
Communications or presentations at scientific conferences are recommended.
You have excellent didactic and communication skills.
You have an excellent command of spoken and written English.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We offer you an 18 months appointment, which may be renewed once, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. The term of renewal begins immediately after the first term has expired. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a post-doctoral assistant at a university within the Flemish Community, you cannot apply for this position.
Your appointment will start on 1 October 2018 at the earliest.
