Organization: FunGlass - Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass of the Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, Slovakia
Department: New Group (in tandem with Department of Biomaterials / Department of Functional Materials/ Department of Coating Processes/ Department of Glass Processing / Central Laboratories / VILA)
On behalf of the “brain gain consortium” FunGlass invites qualified candidates of any nationality and age to apply for the position of „ERA Chair Leader“. The aim of the Centre is to contract an experienced researcher with proven leadership skills who, in close collaboration with its senior researchers and project managers, will prepare a proposal for “European Research Area (ERA) Chair” grant with Funglass as the host organisation. The candidate is expected to have a track record demonstrating his excellence and potential to significantly improve Centre´s research performance in one of the following scientific domains:
We also invite applications from candidates interested in cooperating with other partners of the brain gain consortium: Faculty of Chemical Technology - University of Pardubice (Czech Republic); Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics - AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow (Poland); and Thin Films Physics Department - Centre for Energy Research in Budapest (Hungary).
In phase one, the selected candidate will be offered a short-term contract (up to 6 months) to join the Centre as a visiting scientist. An on-site presence during phase one is considered crucial, but not inevitable. During this phase, the ERA Chair Leader shall become closely acquainted with the Centre´s research program and its advanced research infrastructure so that he/she can formulate a vision for a new research group and turn that vision into a competitive grant application under the Horizon Europe ERA Chair Call (deadline 15th March 2022).
Assuming the ERA Chair grant application is approved for funding, in phase two the ERA Chair Leader will be offered a contract as the “ERA Chair Holder” with autonomous decision-making powers to supervise the newly established group and implement the project with a total budget of €3.5mil. for years 2022 through 2027.
In line with the philosophy of the ERA Chair call, both contracts will offer a competitive compensation package (at a level typical across the European Research Area). Phase one contract will also cover travel costs related to the visiting stay.
About the ERA Chair programme
ERA Chair holders should be excellent researchers and research managers in the given field of research, with a proven record of effective leadership because they should establish their own research team fully integrated in the coordinator's institution to significantly improve its research performance in the scientific domain of choice and to be more successful in obtaining competitive funding.
The ERA Chair holder will have a position with necessary authorities to supervise team of researchers and freely apply for future research funding. The position of the ERA Chair holder is open to all EU and non-EU nationals but shall meet requirements of an "Established Researcher (R3)" or "Leading Researcher (R4)" as set out in the European Framework for Research Careers.
It is expected that the Chair holder commits him/herself for the full duration of the grant. The ERA Chair holder is to be appointed in a full-time position in accordance with the national legislation of the institution hosting the grant. The grant that can have a duration of 5-years maximum covers the appointment of the ERA Chair holder and a number of team members (e.g. their salaries, recruitment costs, administrative costs, travel and subsistence costs).
The grant also provides a contribution towards measures aimed at facilitating structural changes in the institution (e.g. costs for trainings, meetings, publications and managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
