Electronics Engineer for scientific instruments in space

The Aerospace Electronics and Instruments Laboratory (AEIL) of the Institute of Geophysics at ETH Zurich has a long-lasting experience in the design and development of ultra-low-noise analog and digital electronics and on high-resolution data acquisition systems, for applications in planetary seismology and fundamental physics in space. AEIL has successfully developed the sensor electronics for the ESA LISA Pathfinder mission and the NASA InSight mission to Mars. AEIL will contribute to the design and the development of the Gravitational Reference Sensor Electronics for LISA, the upcoming ESA mission for the detection of gravitational waves in space (launch expected in 2032-2034). Electronics Engineer for scientific instruments in space
As a member of a small team, you design, implement and test prototype high performance electronics for space and planetary applications. The activity is particularly focused on ultra-low-noise analog circuits and high-resolution data acquisition systems. You establish specifications derived from scientific requirements and assess their feasibility. You document your results in technical notes and reports. You review the design/implementation documentation of the contracted industry and attend the qualification and acceptance tests of the manufactured models. You participate to project meetings with the international partners.
The position requires a Master degree or a PhD in Electrical Engineering. In order to be considered for this position the candidate should demonstrate sound knowledge in the design of analog and digital electronics, experience in designing and testing low-noise analog circuits and high-resolution data acquisition systems, good understanding of the reliability aspects of the design, familiarity with the elaboration of high-level requirements and their evolution into a technical design, fluency in English both written and spoken. In addition, familiarity with circuit simulation tools (Spice) and knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and Labview software are considered beneficial skills. The job requires the participation to meetings and project reviews. Therefore, a moderate amount of travelling is required to the candidate.
The contract is starting on January 2019 or upon agreement and is limited to two years with possibility of extension.
