Postdoc position for the development of magnetic multilayer systems for binary information storage and processing using chiral spin textures

Job description:
Magnetic multilayer systems with interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction offer an additional degree of freedom for tuning the domain wall energy and stabilizing nanoscale maze domains and skyrmions. For our DACH project entitled “Binary information represented by chiral spin textures” we are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher focusing on the development of magnetic multilayer systems and fabrication of devices supporting 3D magnetic structures that can serve as information carriers.

Your profile:
We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. degree in experimental Physics (or a closely related discipline) having several years of experience in the design and characterization of magnetic multilayer systems and devices. More specifically, a successful applicant should have experience:
  • With the design and fabrication of magnetic multilayer-based sensors or devices
  • With various magnetic materials characterization techniques
  • Using cleanroom facilities for microfabrication
  • With (possibly) magnetic force microscopy techniques

We offer a highly stimulating research environment with an excellent infrastructure: ultra-high vacuum (UHV) sputter deposition systems, various magnetic characterization tools including several home-built (U)HV magnetic force microscopy systems. Within the collaborative DACH project, the successful candidate will also interact with one experimental group and one theory group located in Germany and Austria, respectively.

For further information about the position please contact Prof. Dr Hans Josef Hug, hans-josef.hug@empa.ch, and visit our websites www.empa.ch/web/s203 and Empa-Video
We look forward to receiving your online application including a letter of motivation, CV, diplomas with transcripts and contact details of two referees. Please upload the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
