The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The position will be based in the School of Transport system planning. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Research focus / scientific working areas at least in one of the following areas:
    • Planning and operation of public transport
    • Sustainable transport and mobility management
    • Design and optimisation of transport networks
    • Traffic safety
    • Traffic flow/traffic behaviour
  • Participation in the further expansion of the consecutive degree programmes in Civil Engineering and Industrial Transport Engineering
  • Intensive participation in all relevant Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes at the school
  • You are expected to achieve adequate German language skills within the first two years of service, within the first year at level B2 and at level C1 within a total of two years at the latest
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of public transport
  • Research expertise in at least one of the aforementioned specialisations
  • Familiarity with a wide range of other methodological approaches in transport planning and transport research
  • Willingness and ability to engage in interdisciplinary research cooperation at our university (in particular within the Centre for Mobility and Transport - FZMV and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mobility and Energy - IZME)
  • Initial experience and success in acquiring competitive third-party funding
  • International profile if possible (e.g. periods spent abroad, international contacts, international lectures or publications)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed university degree in a STEM subject, in Geography or Spatial Planning
  • Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate on a topic relevant to the advertised position.
  • Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure

You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), the successful acquisition of third-party funds, project / practical experience, etc. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.

Starting as junior professors, they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for three more years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation. After a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the candidates are appointed associate professors (legal basis: W 3, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement and a written confirmation verifying the negotiated financial and personal resources of the professorship are an integral part of the acceptance agreement between university and candidates.
