Tenure Track Assistant Professorship
(W 1 – tenure W 2; § 36 HG NRW) for “Clinical Psychological Interventions”

(legal basis: W 1 LBesG NRW).

The position is to be taken up by 2022-10-01.


We are seeking to appoint an outstanding junior researcher with an independent research profile in at least one of the areas of clinical psychology, clinical psychological interventions, or psychotherapy research. He*She should be able to connect to the main research activities of the Institute of Psychology and furthermore, in accordance with the university profile strategies, the faculty and university in general.

The appointed person is expected to contribute to the study programs of the Institute of Psychology which lead to the “Approbationsprüfung”. Teaching includes particularly the basics and application of scientifically recognized psychotherapeutic methods and procedures. Prospectively, the professorship should contribute to the management of the university outpatients clinic for psychotherapy. According experience is desirable.

Publications in international journals are expected as well as relevant teaching experience and evidence of didactic competence (e.g., through teaching evaluation). In addition, experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funding is desirable.

Desirable are Open Science practices in the sense of open, transparent and replicable research (according to the Open Science recommendations of the DGPs).

The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic autonomy at the university.


  • A university degree in psychology
  • German “Approbation” as a licensed psychotherapist (“Psychologische*r Psychotherapeut*in”) with specific qualification in one of the scientifically examined and recognized treatments / methods of psychotherapy
  • A particular aptitude for scientific work, usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a respective doctorate
  • Suitability for teaching, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure
  • A record of relevant empirical research and publication activities (in particular articles in peer-reviewed journals)
  • Experience in attracting external funding to support research projects as well as active participation in research programmes
  • International orientation (e.g. stays abroad, international contacts, international lectures or publications)

The successful candidate helps to realise the equality of men and women at the University.

Tenure track:

Starting as junior professors they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for three more years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation. After a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the candidates are appointed associate professors (level W2, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement and a written confirmation verifying the negotiated financial and personal resources of the professorship are an integral part of the acceptance agreement between university and candidates.
