Anhalt University’s Department of Computer Science and Languages in Köthen invites applications for the professorship of

Software Engineering

(salary group W2)

which is to be filled by April 1, 2023.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be expected to represent the designated area of expertise in the Department with his/her teaching and applied research and is required to have a substantiated record in the field of software engineering, in particular software architecture, software development and quality assurance. Suitable candidates will have a proven track record in both research and practical experience in the field of software engineering.

Teaching activities include the basic modules Software Engineering as well as Programming and Modeling. In addition, the scope of duties includes contributing to the curricula development through further module courses in the designated field of expertise as well as the supervision of student projects and theses in the bachelor's and master's degree programs of the Department.

The incumbent is furthermore expected to contribute to developing the Department’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, as well as continuing education courses, show readiness to furthering interdisciplinary cooperation – including intra-institutional cooperation on a departmental level – and participate in collaborative academic self-administration (akademische Selbstverwaltung). Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has the independent right to confer doctoral degrees in disciplines with recognized research focuses. Thus, the incumbent is expected to collaborate on the inter-university Doctoral Center "Engineering Sciences and Information Technologies" (Promotionszentrum Ingenieurwissenschaften und Informationstechnologien / IWIT).

Requirement Profile:

The successful candidate needs to have a highly-developed pedagogical aptitude offering module courses which include authentic and practical applications. Students attending the successful candidate’s classes should benefit from his/her proven practical and research experience. Teaching at the Department is conducted in both German and English. 

Ideally, the successful candidate will be qualified in at least one of the following topics: 

  • secure software engineering (safety & security), 
  • AI and software engineering (e.g. data-driven development), 
  • component-based software engineering, 
  • distributed and collaborative software engineering, 
  • software internationalization, 
  • didactics of programming and software engineering. 

The Department provides modern technical facilities that focus on teaching and applied research. The candidate is expected to show a proactive and innovative commitment and contribute to promoting and advancing cooperation with our national and international partners.

The conditions for employment are governed by Article 35 Hochschulgesetz Land Sachsen-Anhalt (HSG LSA). 

According to Article 17 of the Constitution of Anhalt University (Grundordnung der Hochschule Anhalt), in conjunction with Article 38 HSG LSA, any first appointment as a professor is generally probationary.  The salary is paid in line with legal and budgetary conditions.
