This position will report directly to the Dean of the College of Healthcare Technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will support AUIB’s mission in achieving transitional justice in Iraq through the development of forensic anthropology programs. Responsibilities include teaching and training anthropology courses and fieldwork with emphasis on forensic anthropology.

In addition to teaching within their disciplines, all faculty members at AUIB are expected to engage in scholarly activity, participate in curriculum development, provide service to the profession and broader community, advise students, and supervise senior projects, practicum, and readings courses, and participate in faculty governance. The person hired will oversee the continued development of the Certificate in Forensic Anthropology, serving as its primary advisor and recruiter. Related job responsibilities entail managing the forensic and archaeology lab space. Duties for this position also include creating opportunities for students to assist with forensic casework.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience, from a recognized college or university in Biological Anthropology, with a specialization in Forensic Anthropology. 
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching and potential for conducting relevant scholarly and applied research. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Field and/or laboratory experience in Forensic Anthropology.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in an undergraduate Anthropology program, offering courses in forensic anthropology.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting; experience teaching and working with highly diverse communities. 
  • Proven ability to write and/or administer grants is also highly desirable. 
  • Commitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the mission and purpose of AUIB to position the university as a leading higher education institution in Iraq and the region.
