This position will report directly to Director of Student Life

Summary Of Position:

The Assistant Director of Student Life assists in overseeing various student support services, including student engagement, campus recreation, student advising, career services, student conduct, academic support services, and various other departmental operations. This is a new position in a start-up university setting. The successful candidate will be required to develop and write policies and operating procedures along with identifying areas required for staff development. The Assistant Director will assist in selecting, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating Student Life Managers, Officers, and Coordinators. 


  • Work with Student Life staff members, university administrators, and faculty to design and coordinate student activities, including planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating of events and initiatives. 
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new services offered through the department of Student Life.
  • Identify budget requirements, track expenditures, prepare fiscal budget reports; manage daily operations, including developing and overseeing office and annual Student Life budgeting. 
  • Assist in the dissemination of information to the student body through various written, e-mail, social media, and oral communication methods.
  • Oversee staff development initiatives, job duties and performance reviews including staff training, and day-to-day supervision.
  • Maintain the AUIB – Student Life website and keep up-to-date information (degree plans, forms, contacts) on the site. 
  • Regularly review and recommend changes to internal processes.
  • Plan, organize, administer, and supervise large, campus-wide student programs and initiatives. 
  • Participate in programs and projects designed to foster improved parent-university community relationships.
  • Develop and maintain various methods of data collection to measure efficiency of programs and needs of students. 
  • Prepare proposals for departmental initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Execute, monitor, and evaluate day to day functions and student programs – support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as member of various committees, as assigned. 
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

Experience And Educational Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counselling, leadership, higher education, or any other related discipline
  • At least five years’ work experience in related field (international work experience considered an advantage)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Budget experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (knowledge of Arabic considered an advantage)
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel) and database applications.
  • Demonstrate high degree of service mindset and delivering results
  • Demonstrate high degree of professionalism and the can-do mindset
  • Manage complex and highly sensitive materials and to foster a culture of confidentiality
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to excel in a demanding, outcome-oriented, and dynamic environment with little supervision

Candidates are required to demonstrate a strong knowledge of student engagement strategies in a post‐secondary environment. The ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and staff while being able to work independently under minimal supervision is essential. Candidates must also be able to manage a complex set of priorities utilizing effective organizational and time management skills. This position requires a strong collaborator who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about post‐secondary student success and improving the overall student experience. Excellent problem-solving abilities in addition to strong written and oral communication skills and a proven comfort level with public speaking is critical to the success of this role.
