The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut, located in Beirut, Lebanon currently seeks for its Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Program a candidate with a PhD in any discipline in clinical laboratory sciences, for a tenure track position in the rank of assistant, associate or full professor depending on qualifications. Visiting positions at all levels may be considered.

The MLS Program, hosted by the Division of Health Professions at FHS, is a joint program with the Faculty of Medicine. During the first year of study, students take basic science and core courses. In the second and third year, students learn in-depth theory and application in sub- specialized fields within medical laboratory sciences such as microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology and serology, blood banking and molecular diagnostics. Courses are designed and aligned with the clinical training taking place during the third year at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). The program enrolls approximately 60 new students each year.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: transfusion medicine /blood banking, hematology, immunology and serology, clinical chemistry, bacteriology and other emerging diagnostics and related disciplines
  • Clinical teaching experience
  • Research agenda based on published works and/or external funding
  • Evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations

Teaching responsibilities include: didactic, clinical and laboratory instruction of foundation as well as advanced courses offered at the MLS Program. The successful candidate will also contribute to research and service at FHS.

FHS was established in 1954 as the first school of public health in the Arab world. At the undergraduate level, FHS offers BS in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS), Medical Imaging Sciences (MIS), and Environmental Health (EH) and a BA in Health Communication. MLS and MIS are interdisciplinary programs offered by the Division of Health Professions, which are coordinated jointly by FHS and the Faculty of Medicine (FM). The Faculty also offers a Master of Public Health with three different concentrations, a Master of Science in Epidemiology, a Master in Environmental Sciences-major Environmental Health, and a PhD in Epidemiology, all of which are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
