JOB /OFFER DESCRIPTION 

Full time endowed chairs of excellence are offered to recruit high level researchers, researcher-teachers and teachers contributing to the emergence of world-class research teams, in order to expand the high quality of Aix-Marseille site. 

Position

A*MIDEX offers full time endowed chairs as researchers, researcher-teachers and teachers for 3 years with possibility of a 2-year extension, depending of the achievements of the chair holder on fundraising and publications. The A*Midex Foundation offers Excellence Chair position and project funding (project team (post-doctoral doctoral students), operating expenses related to research, missions, equipment, etc.) up to 200 000€/year for 3 years.

Research missions

The candidate should be an outstanding scientist with an excellent track-record. The applicant should have an excellent potential for a successful scientific career. He/she will have to establish him/herself as a research leader on the international level. This will be reflected through regular publications in high-level journals. 

Teaching 

The chair holder is expected to assume training activities. Proven experience in teaching would be an asset. The candidate must have the ability to work independently, and have good teaching skills relevant for the position.

Management

The position is offered for team leader. The chair holder will lead his/her own research team, to be built and to be integrated in an existing large institute/steady research unit of his/her choice at Aix-Marseille.  He/she is expected to assume responsibility for all managerial tasks that are usual to this full professor level position. The candidate should be able to build and lead a research group, and must be able to raise funds from national, European and International programs. He/she will benefit from an endowed package including a team start-up budget (post-doctoral and doctoral contracts, operating and equipment costs, missions…). It is expected that he/she is able to supervise doctoral theses and post-doctoral researchers.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL, PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS 

Requirements

Researchers, researcher-teachers and teachers willing to join the Université’ s research and teaching site. Candidates must comply with the following criteria (uncomplete application and applications which do not comply with eligibility criteria will not be evaluated)

• PhD diploma 
• Minimum 4 years of research/teaching experience after PhD obtention
• External applicants only (i.e. no internal recruitment to the Aix-Marseille site for a Chair of Excellence)

Selection criteria 

Scientific and pedagogical excellence

• Quality and innovative aspect of the scientific project and quality of the scientific and/or pedagogical approach
• Scientific production (bibliometric, quality criteria) evaluated according to the discipline
• International recognition, or even world leadership in his/her field
• Post-doctoral experience (4 years minimum)
• Prestige of the institutions attended
• Ability to obtain funding (funding obtained, potential to obtain an ERC grant, motivation to fund research)
• Supervisory capacity (experience as a team leader)
• International background: experience outside France (research and/or teaching) (the evaluation of this criterion will consider the profile and gender of the candidate)
• For researcher or teacher/researcher profiles: recent A rating or good ERC ranking preferred, eligibility for those who have applied to a researcher position in France (CNRS, INSERM)
• For teacher or teacher/researcher profiles: teaching experience and quality of pedagogical proposals

Relevance of the integration project

• Integration into the Aix-Marseille ecosystem (Aix-Marseille Université institutes, faculties, research units, technological platforms, etc.)
• Fluency in French appreciated

Selection criteria are to be evaluated by experts trained on gender-based bias in selection according to Aix-Marseille Université gender equality and anti-discrimination policy.
