Research Engineer (m/f/d) for Urban Energy Systems Modelling with Focus on Climate Neutral Cities

Our multidisciplinary and international team for Smart and carbon-neutral urban development focuses on exploring new approaches and solutions for smart, resilient, and climate-neutral cities around the world.
You will be part of our group of experts and contribute to the transformation of urban energy systems, pioneer Positive Energy Districts (PED) developments and advise municipal decision-makers on the development and implementation of decarbonisation strategies on the way to climate-neutral cities.
Engage
In our running national and EU projects you model and analyze urban energy systems and prepare decarbonization scenarios for a sustainable clean energy transition at city as well as district scales.
You will carry out in-depth analysis of energy demands and supply including flexibilization need and potential for local renewable energy generation at city scale.
You will develop, pilot, and implement holistic monitoring and evaluation concepts for integrated urban energy solutions at district scale.
You will collaborate with a variety of project partners and stakeholders, such as municipalities, engineers, architects, data scientist, and urban planners in developing planning concepts and formulate sustainable energy strategies for climate-neutral cities.
You will supervise our international master students and interns.
Achieve
Based on your expertise you will bring AITs energy planning tools for cities and neighborhoods to the next level.
You will become a known expert in the Austrian and European urban energy systems, PEDs and climate-neutral city research community and will contribute to acquiring research projects (e.g., Horizon Europe) and international consulting projects.
You contribute to publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
BSc. /MSc. in Energy Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Architecture, Urban Planning, Applied Physics or related disciplines
At least 3 years experience in energy systems engineering, building simulation and urban energy modelling and excellent command of relevant simulation tools and relevant software (e.g., MAED, LEAP, MESSAGE, City Energy Analyst, EnerGis, FlexiGIS, etc.)
Programming skills and experience in analyzing energy monitoring data using relevant analytical tools like JUPYTER, R and Python are an advantage
Proven experience in developing and contributing to research and consulting projects
Very good communication skills in English and at least good understanding of German
What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 53.256,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training and career opportunities.
