Lecturers in Computer Science (three positions)

The positions are available at all levels of the Aalto University lecturer career system: University Teacher, University Lecturer and Senior University Lecturer. The positions are full-time and, depending on the candidate’s qualification, either fixed-term for 5 years or directly permanent. Lecturers have the possibility to advance in their career to a permanent position through a promotion review. The positions are open at the Department of Computer Science. We invite applications from the following areas:

  • basics of programming
  • machine learning / data science
  • software systems
  • software engineering (especially software architectures, quality assurance and testing)

The candidates are required to hold a doctoral degree. In addition, they are expected to have good teaching skills in higher education, with deep interest in teaching and working with students. In addition, we appreciate candidates who have carried out pedagogical studies and show interest in pedagogy. As part of the teaching is in Finnish, command over the Finnish language is considered a merit. Fluency in English is required, as well as good communication skills and team-work abilities. We strive for gender balance in all positions and at all levels and particularly encourage female candidates to apply for these positions.

The salary is determined based on experience and qualifications of the candidate, according to the salary system of Aalto University. The annual working time for teaching and research staff is 1624 hours, of which Lecturers should allocate 50-80% to teaching, depending on the level of the career system.

  2. curriculum vitae (with contact details; recommended maximum length two pages),
  3. teaching portfolio prepared according to Aalto University’s instructions (https://www.aalto.fi/sites/g/files/flghsv161/files/2018-10/teaching_competence_guidelines_for_candidate.pdf),
  4. research statement (recommended maximum length two pages),
  5. list of publications with three most important publications highlighted, with links to their pdf versions
  6. names, positions, affiliations and e-mail addresses of two senior academic people available for providing recommendation letters

Applications shall consist of one single pdf file, with file name "lastname_firstname_application.pdf". All material should be in English.

The applicants will be reviewed in relation to their career stage on the basis of their teaching credentials, research achievements and activity in the scientific community.
